On a hot summer's day, the young men of each faction fight until the Prince of Verona intercedes and threatens to banish them. Soon after, the head of the Capulet family plans a feast. His goal is to introduce his daughter Juliet to a Count named Paris who seeks to marry Juliet.
Montague's son Romeo and his friends Benvolio and Mercutio hear of the party and resolve to go in disguise. Romeo hopes to see his beloved Rosaline at the party. Instead, while there, he meets Juliet and falls instantly in love with her. Juliet's cousin Tybalt recognises the Montague boys and forces them to leave just as Romeo and Juliet discover one another. Romeo lingers near the Capulet house to talk with Juliet when she appears in her window. The pair declare their love for one another and intend to marry the next day.
With the help of Juliet's Nurse, the lovers arrange to marry when Juliet goes for confession at the cell of Friar Laurence. There, they are secretly married talk about a short engagement. Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight till it be morrow. Following the secret marriage, Juliet's cousin Tybalt sends a challenge to Romeo. Romeo refuses to fight, which angers his friend Mercutio who then fights with Tybalt.
Romeo tries to stop them by leaping between the combatants. Romeo, in a rage, kills Tybalt. Romeo flees from the scene. Soon after, the Prince declares him forever banished from Verona for his crime.
Friar Lawrence arranges for Romeo to spend his wedding night with Juliet before he has to leave for Mantua the following morning. In her room, Juliet awaits the arrival of her new husband. The Nurse enters, and, after some confusion, tells Juliet that Romeo has killed Tybalt. Distraught, Juliet suddenly finds herself married to a man who has killed her kinsman.
But she resettles herself, and realizes that her duty belongs with her love: to Romeo. Morning comes, and the lovers bid farewell, unsure when they will see each other again.
Juliet learns that her father, affected by the recent events, now intends for her to marry Paris in just three days. She counsels Juliet to proceed as if Romeo were dead and to marry Paris, who is a better match anyway. He concocts a plan to reunite Juliet with Romeo in Mantua. The night before her wedding to Paris, Juliet must drink a potion that will make her appear to be dead.
Juliet returns home to discover the wedding has been moved ahead one day, and she is to be married tomorrow. That night, Juliet drinks the potion, and the Nurse discovers her, apparently dead, the next morning. The Capulets grieve, and Juliet is entombed according to plan. Its bearer, Friar John, gets confined to a quarantined house. Romeo hears only that Juliet is dead. They fight, and Romeo kills Paris. Just then, Friar Lawrence enters and realizes that Romeo has killed Paris and himself.
At the same time, Juliet awakes. So, instead, she kills herself with Romeo's dagger. How old is Juliet? What did Juliet drink to fake her death? Juliet does not want to marry this man so she arranges with Friar Lawrence to fake her own death with a sleeping potion that will make everyone think that she is dead. Why did Romeo kill Paris? Paris sees him and thinks he is trying to vandalise the tomb, so he tries to arrest him.
They fight, and Romeo kills Paris. Romeo grants Paris' dying wish to be placed next to Juliet in the tomb. How old is Paris in Romeo and Juliet? He is also, most probably, well connected politically, making him a good family contact for Capulet and his wife. This probably means that he is quite mature being at least twenty-five years old, while Juliet has not yet turned fourteen. What line does Juliet kill herself? Hoping she might die by the same poison, Juliet kisses his lips, but to no avail.
She dies upon Romeo's body. Who died first out of Romeo and Juliet? Believing Romeo to be a vandal, Paris confronts him and, in the ensuing battle, Romeo kills Paris. Still believing Juliet to be dead, he drinks the poison. Juliet then awakens and, discovering that Romeo is dead, stabs herself with his dagger and joins him in death.
